Drive/Fly Itinerary

Day 1 Cairns to Cooktown (LD)

After an early morning pick up from your accommodation your Cape York adventure begins. Travelling north along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, through the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then making our way along the Bloomfield Track (road conditions permitted), stopping off at the historic Lion's Den Hotel, and the mysterious Black Mountain, arriving at the old gold port of Cooktown. Visit Captain Cooks Landing and Grassy Hill Lookout. Overnight accommodation at Cooktown. (Ensuite facilities)

Day 2 Cooktown to Lakefield NP & Musgrave (BLD) (ST)

Heading west into the outback, we travel over the legendary Battle Camp Range to the Old Laura Homestead and Lakefield National Park (road conditons permitting). An amalgamation of 3 huge cattle stations, now a haven for the many birds and animals native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. The afternoon finds us arriving at our permanent campsite at the old Musgrave Telegraph station.

Day 3 Musgrave to Coen, Archer River & Weipa (BLD) (STL)

After a leisurely morning, we continue north stopping off at the historic frontier gold town of Coen and the picturesque Archer River, before making our way to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria. Our accommodation with ensuite facilities tonight is at the Heritage Motel.

Day 4 Weipa to Bramwell Station (BD) (ST)

This morning you may wish to take an informative tour of the Weipa mining operation (own expense) or just relax by the pool. After lunch, we head for our overnight permanent camp site at a true blue Aussie cattle station, Bramwell Station.

Day 5 Bramwell to Fruit Bat Falls & Cape York (BLD) (STL)

After an early start, we head north travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track to arrive at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Then northbound across the Jardine River, to arrive at Cape York! We will be staying at our permanent pre-erected base camp at Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, the departure point for the ferry to Thursday Island and a famous fishing spot.

Day 6 Cape York to Somerset (BLD) (STL)

An unforgettable day! Stand at the most northern tip of mainland Australia - great photo opportunity. We then visit Somerset (road conditions permitting), once the home of the legendary Jardine family and lunch on palm fringed Anchorage Beach which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach completes your day before returning to base.

Day 7 Seisia, Thursday Island, Cairns (B)

An early morning departure as we cruise through island studded straits to explore our northern community, Thursday Island. Here you will be taken on a informative guided bus tour of the island and its picturesque Harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Then board your plane at Horn Island for a scenic flight back to Cairns. ETA to be advised.
