A 32 metre double-decked twin hull catamaran, which visits Michaelmas Cay for the day, you will spend up to 4 hours on the cay. This vessel will travel with up to 150 passengers who can snorkel, introductory dive or take a semi-submersible coral viewing tour.

Michaelmas Cay is a major natural seabird habitat and one of the most important in the Southern Hemisphere. It is home to at least 23 species of seabirds. Many breeds find this island an ideal nesting habitat and is one of the most significant bird sanctuaries on the Great Barrier Reef. At the height of nesting and breeding season (during Summer months) up to 20,000 birds have been observed.

Explore the underwater world without even getting wet!  Cruising in our air-conditioned semi-sub, seated just one metre below the waterline, you’ll get a diver’s view of the reef!  With the large viewing windows, our expert crew provide an informative commentary on the corals and marine life before your eyes as you learn about the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef in this interactive tour.

Snorkelling is fun and a great way to experience the many treasures of the Great Barrier Reef! With easy access from the beach at Michaelmas Cay, people of all ages, whether you’re experienced or a novice, can enjoy the reef, quietly drifting over the myriad of corals and colourful fish. The Cay, with its calm, shallow waters, is ideal for first-timers and young families who want to experience it together.

Daintree Dreaming

Departs Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday only

If you want a very authentic indigenous experience and are prepared to hunt for your food and possibly even slip over in the mud in pursuit of your catch, this is the right tour for you.

Travel by a 4WD modified vehicle from your accommodation to Cooya Beach, here your guide hands over the mastery to one of the Walker Brothers. You will each take a spear and go to the beachfront to practice spearing coconuts. This prepares you for the real hunt, as you will soon begin to walk knee deep in the ocean waters to spear for crabs. Once the spearing is done it is into the mangroves to collect nice meaty shellfish also for eating. Catches are placed into a bucket to be cooked at the main house. During the walk and catch you are learning about bush tucker and medicine and if the season is right you have the opportunity to taste and apply some of these e.g. natural eye drops or edible flowers.

Back at the Walker brothers house morning tea is served as sweets but the more adventurous can taste the marine life caught and cooked fresh. This is a relaxed family setting and the brothers enjoy sharing their cultural knowledge and demonstarted different artifacts and their uses.

Next stop is the Janbal Art Gallery where you view the beautiful art and will create your own art piece guided by the indigenous owner of the gallery. You are most welcome to purchase any of his amazing art works during this visit.

From here you will visit the Mossman Gorge Centre to eat lunch and spend time swimming and walking a section of the incredibly beautiful Mossman Gorge. At the end of the day you are returned to your accommodation.
