Take in the best that outback railways in North Queensland have to offer with a trip on BOTH the iconic Gulflander and Savannahlander trains over a 6 day, 5 night package. This tour package includes your rail fare, accommodation, dinners, breakfasts and all the side-tours and transfers during your visit to the outback that takes in our historic rail journey through the wet tropics and savannah country, Cobbold Gorge and the Undara Lava Tubes.

Your trip features:
Monday: Depart Cairns via coach.
Tuesday: Have a rest day to explore Karumba and surrounds.
Wednesday: Take the Gulflander from Normanton to Croydon and stay in Croydon for the night.
Thursday: Depart Croydon and travel to Mt Surprise by coach. Board the Savannahlander around lunchtime and travel to Einsaleigh. Transfer to Cobbold for a tour and overnight stay with meals and accommodation.
Friday: Returning to Forsayth** in the morning you will board the Savannahlander with a stop along the way for morning tea in the bush. After lunch at the historic Einasleigh hotel travel on to Mt Surprise where you tour the Undara Lava Tubes.
Saturday: Travel on the Savannahlander on it's journey home from Mt Surprise back to it's home in Cairns.
Dinners and breakfasts for your entire tour. (ie. starting with dinner on the Monday through to breakfast on the Saturday) Lunches on Friday and Saturday are also included.

Your tour itinerary in more detail:

Monday
Depart Cairns Monday morning by Trans North coach and arrive in Karumba in the late afternoon.
Accommodation and meals (dinner & breakfast) at your accommodation in Karumba.

Tuesday
Have a rest day to explore Karumba and surrounds. Why not visit the Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre, or book a river cruise. If you would like to take in a fishing charter it is strongly advised to book this well in advance. [prior booking is strongly recommended for any activities you wish to undertake in Karumba].

Wednesday
After breakfast you will be transferred to Normanton.
Depart Normanton and travel on the Gulflander from Normanton to Croydon
Morning tea is provided at the lineside stop at Blackbull
Travel on to Croydon and enjoy lunch at the Croydon Club Hotel (own cost)
Your accommodation and meals will be noted in your itinerary at either the Croydon Club Hotel or the Croydon Caravan Park (Ensuited cabins)

Thursday
Coach transfer to Mt Surprise to meet the Savannahlander just after lunch
Lunch at Mt Surprise (at own expense)
Travel on the Savannahlander from Mt Surprise to Einasleigh
Bus transfer to Cobbold Village
Tour of Cobbold Gorge in their custom silent electric boats
Accommodation and dinner at Cobbold Gorge Village

Friday
Breakfast at Cobbold Gorge Village
Transfer to Forsayth to meet up with the Savannahlander**
Travel on the Savannahlander from Forsayth to Einasleigh
Lineside stop for morning tea
Lunch a the Einasleigh Pub
The opportunity to have a short walk and visit the spectacular Copperfield Gorge
Travel on the Savannahlander from Einasleigh to Mt Surprise
Bus transfer to the Undara Lava Tubes and a walking tour of one of the tubes
Accommodation and dinner at Discovery Parks in Mt Surprise

Saturday
Breakfast at Discovery Parks in Mt Surprise
Travel on the Savannahlander from Mt Surprise to Cairns
Lunch at the Almaden Railway Hotel
Afternoon tea at the Dimbulah Railway station with the Dimbulah Historical Society (at own expense)
Notes:
At Mt Surprise, if you have upgraded your accommodation to stay at the Undara Lava Lodge you will transfer there immediately. Otherwise you will disembark and after a brief stop to your rooms at Discovery Parks Mount Surprise and then you will enjoy a guided tour of the Undara Lava Tubes and return to Mt Surprise in time for dinner.

Tour Options
Due to their popularity, we have included the Undara Lava Tube Tours in this package, however you are free to request this tour to be removed and we will reduce the cost of your tour package accordingly. This must be nominated at the time of booking.

Options include:
Remove the Tour of Undara - This leaves you free to do your own thing in Mt Surprise on Friday afternoon.
Include a Tour and Stay at Undara Experience - Stay at the Undara Lava Lodge with accommodation in either their restored Railway Carriages, Homestead rooms or their Pioneer huts [subject to availability]. You will also have dinner and a Bush Breakfast in the morning and then return to Mt Surprise for the train on Saturday morning.
