Celebrating 30 years of operation, Skyrail is undertaking an $85 million upgrade to enhance the overall rainforest experience. The project includes replacing the existing cableway infrastructure and introducing new gondolas, improving accessibility while delivering a quieter, smoother journey. Travel between 19 August - 25 October 2026 is modified operations, Skyrail will not run the full route between Kuranda and Smithfield; instead, guests will travel on a Kuranda-Barron Falls loop, with connecting bus transfers provided.
Barron Falls Station has panoramic gorge & waterfall views, rainforest boardwalk and the Edge Lookout.

KSR Classic Experience
- CAIRNS RAILWAY STATION
- This tour starts and finishes at Cairns Railway Station
- Train departs Cairns: 8.30am & 9.30am
- Skyrail - Kuranda to Barron Falls loop: Departure times are 12.15pm, 2.15pm & 3.00pm
- Bus transfer back to Cairns Railway Station
- **Please note the Train travel time is 2 hours between Cairns/Kuranda - GOLD CLASS upgrades available on 9.30am train
- FRESHWATER RAILWAY STATION
- This tour starts and finishes at Freshwater Railway Station
- Train departs Freshwater: 8.55am & 9.55am
- Skyrail - Kuranda to Barron Falls loop: Departure times are 12.15pm, 1.15pm & 3.00pm
- Bus transfer back to Freshwater Railway Station
- **Please note the Train travel time is 1.5 hours between Freshwater/Kuranda - GOLD CLASS upgrades available on 9.55am train
STAR Kuranda
- Pick up between 10.05-11.05am

- Train departs Kuranda at 3.30pm / arrives Freshwater Railway Station at 5.00pm
