Back Country Bliss at Mossman Gorge is a mix of adventure and rainforest immersion. You drift down a crystal-clear river on a sled, surrounded by the Daintree, spotting wildlife as you go.
You can also step it up with the Mossman Gorge Adventure Day, which adds more time in the rainforest, extra exploring, and a deeper cultural experience. Overall, it’s an easy, small-group tour that lets you actually feel the rainforest, not just look at it.
River Drift Experience
Escape into the rainforest at Mossman Gorge, just north of Port Douglas. Walk upstream along the riverbed, then drift downstream on a river sled through calm waters and light rapids.
It’s an easy, guided adventure with everything included.
Departs Port Douglas: 9.00am-12.30pm & 2.00pm-5.30pm

Mossman Gorge Adventure Day
Start the day on a private section of the Mossman River with the signature River Drift Experience. After lunch, take part in a traditional Kuku Yalanji smoking ceremony at the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, before a guided walk through Daintree National Park at an easy pace. This interpretive 1.5hr walk, will leave you with a deeper understanding of this breath-taking rainforest. With an optional refreshing dip in the gorge itself.

- Swimwear. We provide wetsuits for all guests. If you prefer, you can bring shorts to swim in, and we'll provide a thermal top. Bikinis and bathers are not advisable. There are no change rooms at the river, so please wear your swimmers underneath your clothes if opting for shorts.
- Towel & comfortable footwear. Thongs or sandals are fine as boots are provided.
- Waterproof camera. Feel free to bring one at your own risk. We highly recommend using a wrist strap. Don't worry if you don't have one though – we offer free photos of your adventure, but keep in mind we can't guarantee 100% photo delivery.
- Prescription glasses with case or contact lenses. Contact lenses are recommended for this activity. If you prefer glasses, these can be worn to help with walking to the river. Our guide can store them in a waterproof bag when you're in the water. Please note that there are a few sections in the river where you will not be able to wear glasses, but this will only be for a short time. The rest of the time, you can wear them as needed.
- All participants are required to complete a medical questionnaire and liability release form
- Not suitable if you have limited mobility or injuries e.g: difficulty walking, injured or limited movement of knees, ankle, shoulder etc
- Not suitable for anyone who is pregnant due to risk of falling on stomach, sudden jarring movements and impacts
- Max recommended weight limit is 125kg/274lb due to limitations of our equipment & our guides ability to safely rescue you in an emergency (A good level of fitness and mobility is required if you are near this weight)
- When the river level is low (most of the year), our activity is generally suitable for ages 4 & 5 with swimming abilities.
- When the river level is higher, the faster flowing water is only suitable for strong swimming adults (15+) with good fitness and mobility.
