Rydges Esplanade Resort - 2 Accessible Rooms, 1 with interconnecting

Recommended: 

Recommended for ambulant and wheel chair users with a high level of function.

Parking:

There are four designated accessible parking bays in the car park on the ground floor at the back of the resort.

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through double automatic doors measuring 2200mm wide, leading into a large level tiled and carpeted area with ample seating The reception desk does not have a lowered section for wheel chair users, but staff are very friendly and will assist where necessary.

Access to public areas:

This lounge is before reception and the dining room and bar are off the right in the same area.  The internet room is behind the reception.  Entry into the restaurant and bar is all level and there is level access to the pool, but there are no means of entry except the steps into the pool. 

Accommodation:

The accessible guest rooms are on the second floor.  The door into the lift is 1000mm wide and the internal measurement of the lift is 1940mm wide and 1320mm long. There is no verbal announcement for stops at each floor and the buttons are not Braille, but are raised.  The door handle is a D handle, with a clear opening width of 766mm and can be opened with one hand.  Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements, just notify staff when booking and they will be more than happy to assist.  The bed room has one queen size bed with the widest space at the side of the bed being 2000mm.  Under bed clearance is 110mm and the height to the top of mattress is 530mm.  There is a coffee/tea making facility in the room.  The TV can be controlled by remote from the bed.  The height of the cupboard clothes rail is 1700mm above the floor.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a 766mm clear opening door which has a slight ramp as shown in the photo in link below.  The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2450mm long by 1860mm wide.  The space between the toilet and the wash basin is 520mm as shown in the photo in link below.  There is a horizontal grab rails fitted beside the toilet which measure 820mm from the floor.  The toilet measures 470mm from the wall to the centre of the toilet seat and the seat is 420mm from the floor.  The shower has both vertical and horizontal grab rails, the shower rose is mounted high but is on a sliding rail. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 645mm with a height to top of sink at 775mm. The base of the mirror from floor is 1050mm.

General:

Staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage if required.  There is no emergency call system in the bathroom. Assistance dogs are welcome on the premises.

Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort - 3 Accessible Rooms

Parking:

There are two accessible parking bays provided for guests in the under ground car park of the resort, there is a set of lifts located next to each car park. Car parks are reserved with drop down barriers. Ask reception for assistance. If travelling by coach or taxi there is an accessible set down area immediately in front of the reception.

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is either through large auto opening doors from the drop off area or via lifts from the underground car park. Reception is a large tiled level area with ample seating. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff will assist guests if required.

Lifts:

Lifts are provided for guests with a clear door opening of 1000mm and have a floor space of 2030mm long by 1450mm wide. The control panel is located at 9000mm from the floor and has tactile only buttons fitted. Hand rails are also fitted within the lifts 810mm from floor to top of rail. There is no voice audible floor announcement.

Access to public areas:

The resort has good wide paths that lead from the reception area to the resort pool and to the pool bar and BBQ area. Within the resort located on the ground level is Lobby shop, conference facility, Novo Bar, Restaurant and accessible toilet.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest room with interconnecting room is on level access with no steps or sills. The door handles are D style levers and the door widths are 770mm. The main accessible bed room has a double bed and there is some room to move around it or it can be moved easily to allow greater room to one side. Under bed clearance is 100mm and the height to the top of bed is 600mm. A desk is provided with a height of 760mm to the top of desk and a 715mm under clearance. The clothes rail is located 1440mm from the floor surface.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a wide door with a clear width of 890mm. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 3060mm long by 1850mm wide. The shower is hob less and is easily accessible. Grab rails are fitted to the toilets and are mounted 810mm from the floor to top of grab rail. Shower is fitted with a fold down seat that is 1000mm long by 400 wide and is 440mm from the floor to top of seat. Best Western Plus - Cairns Central - 2 Accessible Rooms with that can be interconnecting 

Parking:

There are two accessible parking bays provided on the first and second floor of the building, near the lifts.

Entry into reception:

Reception is a large tiled level area with ample seating. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff will assist guests if required.

Lifts:

There are two lifts. These measurements are of the larger one with a floor space of 2360mm long by 1073mm wide, with the door opening being 900mm wide. The control panel has large tactile buttons with Braille. The other lift is too narrow for a wheelchair to turn around in.

Access to public areas:

There are lifts to all floors and the pool is on the thirteenth floor which has lift to get to the pool deck. There are accessible toilets at the level of the lift to the pool.  There are two accessible guest rooms on floors nine and ten which are on level access with no steps or sills. The door handles are D style levers and the door widths are 825mm. There is an automatic door opener into the room, so there is no need to push the heavy door and a large button to press to come out,

Accommodation:

The kitchen is not accessible with benches all around and cupboards under the sink.  The bed room has a queen size bed and there is ample room to move around it or it can be moved easily to allow greater room to one side. Under bed clearance is 130mm but the resort will provide bed risers to assist guests requiring the use of a hoist. Please ask when booking. The adjoining room has two single beds, but does not have a kitchen.

The toilet is fitted with grab rails and is located next to the shower recess. There is 440mm from the centre of the toilet to the wall. There is a washing machine, sink and dryer in the cupboard. The dryer is high off the floor but the controls are at the bottom. There is an enclosed balcony off the lounge room, looking west over Cairns to the mountains, which has access from two doors, but only the dining room entrance has a little ramp, the other has a little step.

Cairns Colonial Club Resort - 2 Accessible Rooms that can be interconnecting

Parking:

There is one designated accessible parking bay immediately in front of reception. There is an undercover area for drop offs immediately in front of reception.

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through a large open level area with no steps or thresholds. The reception desk does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff are very friendly and will assist where necessary.

Access to public areas:

Entry into the restaurant is through the main foyer, there are no steps or lips into the restaurant making access very easy to tables and the buffet. The Pool bar and pool is close to the accessible accommodation and the paths are level and well constructed making access easy. There are three pools in total on the property with the most accessible pool being located next to the pool bar. The pool will not be accessible to all levels of disability. The Jardine restaurant and Fitness Centre are not accessible due to stair access.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest rooms are located close to reception on the ground floor. Access into the room is over a level threshold with no sills, the door width is 780mm clear opening. The doors are light and easy to open with D style levers and no force required to push the doors open. Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements, just notify staff when booking and they will be more than happy to assist. The bed room has two king single beds that can be zipped together to make one king bed, please advise requirement when booking. Under bed clearance is 100mm and the height to the top of mattress is 530 mm. Clear spaces from side of bed 800mm or 2.5m if one bed removed. There is a writing desk provided with a height to the top of the desk at 700mm and a clear height from the floor of 670mm. There is a coffee/tea making facility and small bar fridge underneath. The TV and air conditioning can be controlled by remote controls from the bed.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a 625mm clear openingdoor. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2200mm long by 1830mm wide. There is no drop down shower seat but a portable shower seat is provided.  Horizontal and vertical grab rails are provided and the shower rose is adjustable with flick mix tap. Grab rails are fitted to the toilets and are mounted 770mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The height from the floor to the top of the pan seat is 440mm and 480mm from wall to centre of seat. The sink is located 460mm from the front left side of the pan, this may hinder some transfer styles. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 680mm with a height to top of sink at 810mm. The mirror is full length from floor to ceiling. An emergency call button is located between the shower and toilet.

There are no designated accessible parking bays, ample room is provided for drop offs under cover immediately in front of reception.

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through a double manual door with a 40mm threshold lip. The door may be difficult for some guests but staff will assist with the door on arrival. Reception is a large tiled level area with ample seating. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff will assist guests ifrequired.

Access to public areas:

The resort has good wide paths that lead from the reception area to the resort BBQ area, pool and to the adjoining dining room. There is a 40mm threshold lip from the pool area leading into the dining room. Entry into the dining room from reception is level access and the door is very light and easy to push.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest rooms are on level access with no steps or sills. The door handles are D style levers and the door widths are 760mm. The bed room has one double bed and one single bed, there is ample room to move around it or it can be moved easily to allow greater room to one side. Under bed clearance is 130mm and the height to the top of bed is 640mm. There is no writing desk in the room. There is a coffee/tea making facility and small bar fridge underneath. The TV can be controlled by remote from the bed. The air conditioner does not operate off a remote and the controls may be out of reach for some guests. Staff will assist with the air conditioner if required. The height of the cupboard clothes rail is 1430mm above the floor. The room balcony has a sliding door track to negotiate and may not be accessible to all guests.

There are no designated accessible parking bays but there is parking immediately in front of reception or there is lots of on street parking.

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through double sliding doors into an open level area with no steps or thresholds. The reception desk does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff are very friendly and will assist where necessary. Within reception you will find a tour desk and internet café for you convenience.

Access to public areas:

Entry into the Pool area, BBQ's, Bar, Kitchen and Games Room is over level access through the pool gate. Some visitors may need assistance reaching the pool gate latch. The Pool bar and pool is close to the accessible accommodation and the paths are level and well constructed making access easy.  The kitchen workstations are reasonably accessible and can be operated with little fuss.

Accommodation:  

The accessible guest room is located close to reception on the ground floor. Access into the room is over a level threshold with no sills, the door width is 820mm clear opening. The doors are light and easy to open with D style levers and no force required to push the doors open. The bedroom is dorm style with eight single beds.  Under bed clearance is 260mm and the height to the top of mattress is 430 mm. There is 2m of clear space between beds. Entry into reception is through a single manual door. The door is easy to open with little force required. There is no lowered counter but staff will assist if required. There is ample seating in reception if required.

Access to public areas:

There is good access to the pool area through a gate with combination lock making it easily reachable. The pool will not be accessible to all guests, but those able to transfer in and out of a chair or mobility device may be able access it.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest room is on level access with no steps or sills. The door handles are D style levers and the door widths are 800mm. The bed rooms are configured with a queen size bed in the main room and two single beds in the second room. The accessible main bedroom under bed clearance is 140mm and the height to the top of bed is 530mm. The widest point from the queen bed is 1200mm. The height of the cupboard clothes rail is 1800mm above the floor. There is a full kitchenette provided for your convenience. A small dining table is provided in the lounge room with a top height of 710mm and a height from floor to underside of 700mm.The TV and AC can be controlled by remote. The lounge furniture can be moved to make access easy if required. All the switches are located 1100mm from the floor in easily accessible locations.

Coconut Caravan Holiday Resort - 3 Accessible Cabins

Recommendation:

It is advisable that a person with mobility impairment have a carer support to with access into some areas of the park. Although the park is quite accessible there will be some areas that guests may require assistance depending on levels of ability. Parking: There is one designated accessible parking bay immediately in front of reception prior to entering the resort. Each accessible cabin has one private parking space. The ambulant ensuite van site has room for car and van parking.

Entry into reception:

Entry to reception is across a small raised bridge that may be difficult for some guests, it is recommended that assistance be used to cross the bridge. Entry into reception is then over a small threshold of approx 75mm. Once inside, the reception area is a level tiled area. There is no lowered counter for wheelchairs but staff are very helpful and will assist you however they can. To exit reception you will need to go back out the way you entered as there is a small step down into the park area.  The park Mini Mart has two low steps up, the resort will provide a small ramp to give access into the shop. Please let staff know you will require the use of the ramp.

Access to public areas:

The Sun Lagoon Pool area can be found at the southern end of the park. The Sun Lagoon Pool area is accessible but may require some assistance to access the pool gate latch. The Sun Lagoon pool itself will not be accessible to all visitors but those who are able to transfer or walk short distances may be able to access the pool. There are tables, chairs and a BBQ hut available in the Lagoon area. The Garden Pool area has a good level access path leading from the recreation building. The pool will not be accessible to all guests. The BBQ area is accessible with some assistance up into the BBQ hut area.   The Kids Adventureland and bike mania track is easily accessible from the cabins and camp grounds. Not all play equipment is accessible due to sand soft fall. The bike track is accessible and leads to an accessible toilet block located conveniently between the playground and tennis courts. 

The tennis court is accessible if you are keen for a hit. There is a good path that leads along the whole activity area from the pool to the Worlds Largest Jumping Pillow located immediately in front of one of the three accessible cabins (cabin 26).

Recreation Building is accessible with level access to table tennis and pool tables. There is a TV room and Video room with a small sliding door track threshold. The outdoor cinema and small basket ball court is located next to the recreation building. The toilet block only has conventional toilets and there is a small threshold into the laundry. The mini golf located next to the recreation building is not accessible due to the gravel used in the landscaping. Cairns Coconut Splash - This new attraction to the park is fully accessible to wheelchair users and is a hit with the kids, big and small

Accessible Cabins:

There are three accessible cabins located in the resort. Access into the cabin is up a ramp located next to the parking area. The door width is 890mm clear opening. The doors are light and easy to slide open and little force required to slide the doors open. Entry into the cabin is over a level threshold, the floor surface is a well laid tiled area. The cabin contains a queen size bed, two bunk beds for a larger family or carer. Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements, just notify staff when booking and they will be more than happy to assist. The double bed can be turned 90 degrees to suit your needs and achieve greatest access.

The dining table has a top height of 710mm with a 680mm under side clearance.  There is a small kitchen facility and fridge within the cabin and all utensils are supplied. The kitchen bench top is 910mm from the floor with no under side clearance. The TV and air conditioning are mounted up high and are fully remote controlled. A clothes hanging in cupboard is provided with the rail mounted at 1720mm from the floor. All light switches and controls are mounted 1000mm from the floor.

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a 770mm clear opening door. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 3480mm long by 1930mm wide. There is a drop down shower seat mounted at a height from floor of 480mm x 960mm long and 420mm wide. A shower commode can be hired from Phoenix Medical and Prescription and delivered to the park if required. Contact Phoenix on 4041 3629.  Horizontal and vertical grab rails are provided and mounted 800mm from floor to top of rail. The shower rose is adjustable with a flick mix tap and easily reached from the seat. There is a half shower screen fitted and when the seat is down there is 680mm clearance between seat and screen.

Grab rails are fitted to the toilets and are mounted 800mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The height from the floor to the top of the pan seat is 450mm and 450mm from wall to centre of seat. The sink is located 840mm to the right of the pan (see photo) There is no emergency call system fitted to the shower or toilet.  Clearance to the under side of the sink is 660mm with a height to top of sink at 800mm. The base of the mirror is 1020mm from floor.

Accessible Camp Ground Shower/Toilet:

If you are into camping there is an accessible shower and toilet facility provided. When you check in you will be provided a key to access the facility. The facility has an overall dimension of 2590mm long by 3000mm wide. The pan is 470mm from wall to centre of pan and 460mm from floor to top of seat. Grabrails are mounted 810mm from floor to the top of the grab rail.  The shower has a fold down seat mounted 470mm from the floor, 900mm long and 400mm wide. A portable shower seat is also provided for your convenience. Horizontal and vertical grabrails are provided. The sink is 780mm from floor to top of sink and has an underside clearance of 650mm. 

General:

The resort is very well laid out but will not suit every person's access requirements. The resort is well worth a visit and you will find the grounds very relaxing. The resort is located approximately 10 minutes from the CBD of Cairns and is the gateway to many fine tourist attractions located in and around Cairns. The staff are great and will assist you in ensuring you have the best possible stay during you holiday. Assistance dogs are welcome on the premises.

Clearance to the under side of the sink is 680mm with a height to top of sink at 845mm. The base of the mirror from floor is 940mm.

Mantra Esplanade - 2 Accessible Rooms that can be interconnecting

Parking:

There are three accessible parking bays provided for guests on the second floor of the resort located next to the lift. If travelling by coach or taxi there is an accessible set down area immediately in front of the resort.

Entry into reception:

Reception is a large tiled level area with ample seating. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chairs but staff will assist guests if required.

Lifts:

Lifts are provided for guests and have a floor space of 2100mm long by 1500mm wide. The control panel is located at 900mm from the floor and has tactile only buttons fitted. Hand rails are also fitted within the lifts 810mm from floor to top of rail.

Access to public areas:

The resort has good wide paths that lead from the reception area to the resort pool and to the adjoining hotel/bar. Within the resort located on the ground level are a café, shop and accessible toilet. The first floor has a restaurant and accessible public toilet.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest room with interconnecting room is on level access with no steps or sills. The door handles are L style levers and the door widths are 800mm. The circulation space within the lounge room is very good and large wheelchairs will be able to move unhindered. The kitchenette is has a bench top height of 850mm with 670mm clearance under the sink. The microwave can be brought down to bench level if required, staff are more than happy to assist. The main accessible bed room has a queen size bed and there is ample room to move around it or it can be moved easily to allow greater room to one side. Under bed clearance is 120mm.  The adjoining room has two single beds and accessible bathroom or it can be used as individual room but does not have a kitchen. The room balcony has a small step down and will not be accessible to all guests.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a wide door with a clear width of 800mm. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 3000mm long by 1840mm wide. There is ample room to move a hoist through the doorway and into the shower and toilet area. The shower is hob less and is easily accessible. Grab rails are fitted to the toilets and are mounted 810mm from the floor to top of grab rail. Shower is fitted with a fold down seat that is 900mm long by 380 wide. There is a horizontal grab rail only fitted and the shower has a lever flick mix tap. The toilet is fitted with grab rails and is located next to the shower recess. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 700mm with a top height of 870mm. There is a washing machine and dryer provided. The dryer is quite high off the floor and assistance will be required by some guests.

 

Shangri-La Hotel - 4 Accessible Rooms

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through double automatic glass doors into an open level area with no steps or thresholds. The reception desk does not have a lowered section for wheelchair users, but staff are very friendly and will assist where necessary. In the reception area you will find a tour desk and internet café for you convenience.

Parking:

There are two designated accessible parking bays which are in the underground car park and there is lift access to the upper floors.

Accommodation:

There are four accessible guest rooms, two of which are superior rooms and are located on the upper floors, which have access by way of a lift. There are three lifts which have a clear opening of 1100mm in the doorway and 800mm wide and 1900mm deep. There are no verbal announcements or raised letters in the lifts. There is level access into the room and the door width is 770mm clear opening. The door has a D handle but requires some force to open.

The bedroom is configured with two single beds which can be made into a double bed if required. There is no clearance under the bed and the height to the top of mattress is 580 mm. The widest clearance at the side of the bed is 1300mm. There is a writing desk provided with a height to the top of the desk at 740mm and a clear height from the floor of 690mm. There is a small bar fridge with tea and coffee making facilities. The wardrobe clothes rail is 1400mm from the floor. There is a small balcony over-looking Trinity Inlet with a small lip.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a 790mm level opening door. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2800mm long by 2300mm wide. There is a small shower seat provided on the wall. There is a horizontal grab rail which measures 780mm from the floor and the shower rose is on a sliding base. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 770mm with a height to top of sink being 890mm. The base of the mirror is 1060mm from the floor. Grab rails are fitted beside the toilet and are mounted 780mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The height from the floor to the top of the pan seat is 470mm and 610mm from wall to centre of the toilet seat. There is an emergency call phone provided beside the toilet.

General:

There is a gymnasium downstairs in the Pier Shopping Centre which the hotel clients have access to and it is completely accessible.

Lifts are provided for guests in Towers 1 and 3.Tower 1 lift dimensions, door opening 1000mm, internal width 1360mm X 2220mm depth. Tower 3 door opening 1000mm, internal widths 1100mm X 2160mm depth. The control panel is located at 900mm from the floor and has tactile and Braille buttons fitted. Hand rails are also fitted within the lifts 810mm from floor to top of rail.

Cairns Queens Court - 2 Accessible Rooms - Recommended only for ambulant and wheel chair users with a high level of function.

Parking:

There is no designated accessible parking bay at the front entrance of Queens Court, although there are parking areas that can be used both in the front and at the side, outside the Studio apartment. Neither is undercover. There is an undercover drop off area at the front of Queens Court.

Entry into reception:

The entry into reception is through double manual door, measuring 1580 mm in total, with no threshold. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for people using wheel chairs but staff is willing to assist the guests. 

Access to public areas:

The whole establishment has good level access into all areas, but the pool has no special access into the pool itself

Accommodation:

There are two accessible guest rooms, one being a room with two single beds. This room is called superior and is three and a half stars. The other is a studio apartment. They are quite different. The following is the information about the superior room:

It has level access with no steps or sills. The door width is 857 mm, fitted with D style handles and require slight force to open. This room is configured with two single beds (see photo). Under bed clearance is 150mm and the height to the top of bed is 540mm. The widest accessible point from the side of the bed is 660mm. There is no accessible table or desk in this room. There is a coffee/tea making facility microwave oven and small bar fridge provided.

The TV and AC can be controlled by remote from the bed. The height of the cupboard clothes rail is very high at 1850mm above the floor. It has level access with no steps or sills. The door width is 857 mm, fitted with D style handles and require slight force to open. This room is configured with two single beds (see photo). Under bed clearance is 150mm and the height to the top of bed is 540mm. The widest accessible point from the side of the bed is 660mm. There is no accessible table or desk in this room. There is a coffee/tea making facility microwave oven and small bar fridge provided. The TV and AC can be controlled by remote from the bed. The height of the cupboard clothes rail is very high at 1850mm above the floor.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through an 875mm door. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2400mm long by 1900mm wide. There is a drop down shower seat provided with a height of 450mm, width of 875mm and depth of 365mm. Vertical and horizontal grab rails are fitted to the shower and toilet at 810 mm high. A flick mix tap is provided and is easily reachable when sitting in front of the shower. The toilet is mounted 420mm from wall to centre of pan. The seat height is 455mm from floor to top of seat. The sink is located 1100mm from the front of the pan. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 650mm with a top height of 770mm. The base of the mirror from floor is 975mm.

The second apartment is the studio apartment:

The room is configured with a king size bed.  Under bed clearance is 80mm and the height to the top of bed is 585mm. The widest accessible point from the side of the bed is 1260mm. There is an accessible table in this room with a top height of 750mm and a height from floor to the underside of 715mm. This is a self contained apartment with a stove, microwave, fridge and sink, although the microwave is too high to be accessible. The TV and AC can be controlled by remote from the bed. The height of the cupboard clothes rail is very high at 1850mm above the floor.

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through an 800mm door. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2380mm long by 1880mm wide. There is a drop down shower seat provided with a height of 470mm, width of 990mm and depth of 410mm.  Vertical and horizontal grab rails are fitted to the shower and toilet at 810 mm high.  A flick mix tap is provided and is easily reachable when sitting in front of the shower. The toilet is mounted 460mm from wall to centre of pan. The seat height is 470mm from floor to top of seat. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 630mm with a top height of 790mm. The base of the mirror from floor is 910mm.

Sheridan Plaza Hotel - 2 Accessible Rooms

Parking:

There are no designated accessible parking bays, although there is an undercover drop-off area outside reception beside the ramp (which is not undercover).

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is from Mcleod Street and is through double manual glass doors into an open level area with no steps or thresholds with the width being 1350mm with both doors opened. The reception desk does not have a lowered section for wheelchair users, but staff are friendly and will assist where necessary.   

Access to public areas:

The restaurant and bar is across from the reception with level entry. The measurement of the dining room door is 1350mm wide. There is a pool with a small ramp into it but no other access is provided.

Accommodation:

There are two accessible guest rooms which are located on the fourth and fifth floor which has access by way of a lift, which has a clear opening of 1018mm in the doorway and is 1503mm wide and 2560mm deep.  There are no verbal announcements at each floor, although the buttons are raised. Access into the room is over a level threshold with no sills, the door width is 824mm clear opening. The door has D style handles that requires some force to open.  The bedroom is configured with a queen size bed. Under bed clearance is 115mm and the height to the top of mattress is 534 mm. The widest clearance at the side of the bed is 1220mm.

There is a writing desk provided with a height to the top of the desk at 780mm and a clear height from the floor of 677mm.  There is a small bar fridge with tea and coffee making facilities.  The wardrobe clothes rail is 1590mm from the floor and the light switches are positioned 900mm from the floor. There is a small balcony off the bedroom with a small lip, which may make access difficult.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a 730mm clear opening door. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2470mm long by 2370mm wide.  There are no grab-rails in the shower and the management will provide a plastic chair. The shower rose is on a sliding base with a flick mix tap.  Clearance to the under side of the sink is 694mm with a height to top of sink at 810mm.  Grab rails are fitted to the toilet and are mounted 830mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The height from the floor to the top of the pan seat is 400mm and 580mm from wall to centre of seat No emergency call button provided in the shower and toilet.

Sunland Caravan Park - 1 Accessible Room

Parking:

There is a designated accessible parking bay beside the cabin which has no cover. 

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is through 2 manual doors which when fully opened are 1500 mm wide. The reception desk does not have a lowered section for easy access for wheel chair users, although staff are very friendly and will assist where necessary.

Accommodation:

The accessible cabin is set neatly amongst the gardens of the van park.  There is a ramp to the cabin which is 1159mm wide and leads onto the door which is easy to slide and is 940mm wide with no sill.  The room is an open living room which is self contained with a stove, microwave, fridge and sink.  It also has a queen size bed with a large amount of room on one side, with the dining table and lounge in the living area.    Under bed clearance is 120mm and the height to the top of mattress is 550mm.  The management will put block raisers under the bed if necessary.

There is a table with a height to the top of 740mm and a clear height underneath from the floor of 685mm.  The TV and air-conditioner can be controlled by remote. There are two level clothes rails in the cupboard which are 1800mm and 1170mm above the floor. The light and fan switches are large and at a height of 890mm from the floor. 

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible bathroom is through an 865mm clear opening door. The facility has a separate shower and toilet, but all in the same room as seen by the photos. The whole room is 3130mm long, 1080mm of that being the shower and the room is 1580 wide.  There is a portable shower chair provided which is not self propelled.   There are grab rails in the toilet which is mounted at 800mm and the shower rail is at 840mm.  The shower rose is on a sliding rail, while the tap is a flick mix lever and easily accessible.

There is 1200mm distance in front of the toilet to the little sloping lip, which leads into the shower.  The height of the seat from floor is 412mm and 430mm to centre of pan from side wall. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 695mm with a height to top of sink at 830mm. The base of the mirror from floor is 1110mm. There is an emergency call system both in the bathroom and beside the bed.  The facility also has a laundry in the unit with a front loading machine and a dryer.

General:

This caravan park is located a few kilometres from Cairns City and is in a quiet location and well set out in lovely gardens.  There is 24hour guest service provided and service dogs are welcome in the cabin.

Sunshine Tower - 2 Accessible Rooms

Parking:

There are two designated accessible parking bays which are underneath the building with a lift access to the upper floors. There is also a laundry which has a 100 mm step, but is quite roomy once inside

Access to public areas:

The restaurant and bar is across from the reception with level entry.  There is a pool which is up steps, so has no access.  

Accommodation:

The accessible guest rooms are located on the second and third floor which has access by way of a lift, which has a clear opening of 880mm in the doorway and is 1509mm wide and 1707mm deep. There are no verbal announcements at each floor. This information is regarding the room on the second floor. Access into the room is over a level threshold with no sills, the door width is 770mm clear opening. The door requires some force to open and has a round knob which needs to be turned which pushing. 

The bedroom is configured with a double and a single bed. Under bed clearance is 50mm and the height to the top of mattress is 510 mm. The widest clearance at the side of the bed is 940mm.  There is a writing desk provided with a height to the top of the desk at 840mm and a clear height from the floor of 610mm. There is a small bar fridge with tea and coffee making facilities.  The wardrobe clothes rail is 1540mm from the floor and the light switches are positioned 1040mm from the floor.  There is a small balcony looking over Sheridan Street with a small lip, as seen the photo, although the other balcony door has a ramp.

The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2290mm long by 1900mm wide.  There is a portable shower seat provided. Clearance to the under side of the sink is 640mm with a height to top of sink at 765mm. 

There is a horizontal grab rail which measures 920mm from the floor and the shower rose is on a sliding base.  Grab rails are fitted to the toilet and are mounted 720mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The height from the floor to the top of the pan seat is 445mm and 450mm from wall to centre of seat.  There is only 330mm of space from the sink to the toilet.  No emergency call button provided in the shower and toilet.

General:

Staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage if required.  Assistance dogs are welcome on the premises.

Green Island Resort - 1 Accessible Room with interconnecting room

 

Getting there:

Located on the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island is just 27km, a 45 minute boat ride from Cairns with Great Adventures high speed catamarans. These transfers are complimentary for house guests and are confirmed at the time of booking. For guests who use a wheelchair, departure times on the ferries will be tidal dependant and the reservation staff will advise the best departure time for you. Due to Workplace Occupational Health and Safety crew members are not allowed to lift wheelchairs onto the vessel. There are well designed gangways to allow wheelchairs onto the ferries and some guests may need a carer or someone to assist while boarding.

Boat Departure Times From Cairns: 0830, 1030, 1300

From Green Island: 0915, 1200, 1430 or 1630 

Optional bus transfers can be arranged from most hotels and resorts in Cairns, the Northern Beaches and Port Douglas.

On arrival at the Island Guests staying overnight at the resort will be greeted by staff on the wharf and escorted into the resort.

Reception Access:

Reception is via a ramp approx 3m wide that will take you directly to reception. There is a small door sill leading into reception and some guests may require assistance. Reception has a lowered desk with clearance underneath for your feet. Boardwalk leading to information counter. Ramp to reception is to the right Access to public areas Green Island is linked from the wharf to your accommodation and all public areas by a system of boardwalks and paved paths.

Access to public areas:

Entry into Emeralds restaurant and the dive shop have small door sills and some guest may require assistance. The pool bar, cafes and shops are all accessible. Accessible Toilets: A set of accessible toilets is located in the café, pool area and is a large facility and well equipped.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest room with interconnecting room is located close to reception; access is via a wide boardwalk. Entry into the room is up a small timber door sill ramp and some guests may require assistance. Entry into the room is via a wide 830mm door with a knob style door handle. Once inside the room is quite spacious. Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements. The circulation space within the room is very good and large wheelchairs will be able to move unhindered. There are two double beds within the accessible room and one queen size bed in the adjoining room. Clearance beneath the beds from floor to bed base is only 100mm. Clearance through to the interconnecting room doors is 830mm. One of the doors is a fire door and a door wedge is required to hold it open, contact reception and they will provide one.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower is through a sliding door with a clear width of 790mm as the door does not fully open into the 900mm door frame. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 3100mm long by 1500mm wide and a shower recess of 650mm by 480mm. There is a 20mm drop into the shower recess, some guest may require assistance and would not be suitable for hoists. Sink height to top of sink is 800mm with 650mm from floor to under side of sink. 3100mm 1500mm Entry Bath Sink Shower Recess Toilet flushing control is flush mounted into the wall and may be difficult to access for some guests with hand disabilities. Access to beaches and water activities:

The boardwalks lead right up the beaches along the northern side of the island but there is no access onto the sand. Adventurous guest may be able to access the beach with assistance from a carer and try snorkelling around the reef. There is no access into the glass bottom boats or underwater observatory. You will be able to enjoy the fish feeding which takes place in the evening when the day visitors have all departed the island. Overall the island is a very relaxing break; even if you are there as a day visitor you will enjoy the calming atmosphere of island life.
